Scottsdale Pizza

While the warm winter weather might get you to move to Scottsdale, it very well may be the pizza that you stay for. Here, in no particular order, are three of the best pizzerias in the little town east of Phoenix.

Grimaldi's Coal Brick-Oven Pizzeria

4000 N. Scottsdale Road
Scottsdale, AZ 85251

You have heard of wood-fired pizza but coal-fired? The 1,200-degree, coal-fired oven, give a very distinctive taste and smoky aroma, plus a more crispy crust than you would find with a wood-fired oven, convection or gas oven. Top your pizza with some coal-fired roasted red peppers...if you dare, or ask and see what Frank Sinatra and former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani had when they ate there.

Humble Pie

6149 N. Scottsdale Road
Scottsdale, AZ 85250

Amazing gourmet creations including the pizza topped with prosciutto, pear, gorgonzola and arugula. Or how about the one topped with fresh mozzarella, pancetta, green onions and wild mushrooms. Owner Tom Kaufman's (co-founder of the wonderful Rancho Pinot) has created a unique wine list as well as a full bar that includes a good selection of craft beers.

Grazie Pizzeria Winebar

6952 E. Main St.
Scottsdale, AZ 85251

That's "Graht-See-Ay", Italian for "Thanks". After window shopping Old Town Scottsdale, sit for a spell in the wine bar and then when your table is ready order the Dame Edna, topped with prosciutto, arugula, mozzarella and shavings of Parmigiano-Reggiano. Rare imported Italian wines from every region of Italy turns the meal into a celebration.
